New roles for Lynn Smith, Mike Galanos, Susan Hendricks

Beginning March 11, anchor Lynn Smith returns from maternity leave — but not for the weekend. She will begin anchoring On The Story Monday through Friday, noon to 2:00pm ET. Previously, after Erica Hill left it for CNN, the show was hosted by a rotation of hosts, including Susan Hendricks, Christi Paul, Shyann Malone, Elizabeth Prann, and Mike Galanos.

In her place on Weekend Express, the network announced Susan Hendricks will begin anchoring as the new anchor, effective Saturday, March 16. Hendricks, a veteran journalist at HLN, most recently served as a fill-in anchor on the network’s daytime live news programs and hosted the high-rated special on the Delphi murder case, which, following its premiere on February 15, resulted in a surge of nearly 1200 tips to law enforcement.

Furthermore, Galanos will anchor a new program on HLN, airing from 2:00pm to 3:00pm, called True Crime Live — it will focus on high profile court cases, mysteries and investigations, with expert guests and an eye toward helping authorities track down fugitives. Viewer involvement will be encouraged via a tip line.

“We are fortunate to have such a strong roster of talent at HLN. Lynn has done a spectacular job on Weekend Express and Mike and Susan are longtime anchors at the network who excel on so many levels,” said HLN vice president of programming, Stephanie Todd. “This new, robust dayside schedule, led by the popular Morning Express with Robin Meade, positions HLN to best serve viewers with live news coverage of the day’s top stories, followed by a seamless transition to the network’s captivating lineup of long-form mysteries and investigations themed programming,” she added.

In an interivew with the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Smith said of her new show, “We hope to get stories with human elements in them such as a missing pregnant mom. It’s getting the uncle and doing a longer-form interesting take on that.” She also wants to insert lifestyle stories that she liked to do on weekends about topics such as health, parenting, food and fitness.

Susan Hendricks to anchor on HLN Thursday and Friday

Back on air after the birth of her son with her former CNN/HLN colleague Joe Carter, Susan Hendricks is scheduled to fill in today and on Friday for Michaela Pereira on her late morning show, Michaela.

When HLN was still led by Albie Hecht, Hendricks opted out of her contract in early 2015. But with Hecht out the door and Ken Jautz in charge of the network, she returned in early 2016 to anchor Weekend Express while Lynn Smith began her own maternity leave.
