David Gregory joins CNN as a political analyst

Former NBC News Meet the Press moderator David Gregory has officially joined CNN as a political analyst, reports Politico. Gregory is expected to appear primarily on the network’s morning show, New Day.

He signed on with CNN in early February for a brief contributor contract for CNN’s coverage of the Iowa caucuses and has appeared frequently since then.

Back in 2014, it was rumored Gregory may join CNN as an anchor, but that fizzled out reportedly over a salary dispute.

With Easter over, Chris Cuomo returns to Twitter

For the Lenten season, CNN morning anchor Chris Cuomo decided to give up Twitter. And now, with Easter over with, Cuomo has quickly returned to Twitter, and has resumed his prolific tweeting.

His first tweet since his return:

While he gave up Twitter for Lent, Cuomo still used his Facebook account; just last week, Cuomo defended himself against attackers for wearing a shirt that was a gift from Fidel Castro to Cuomo’s late father, Mario Cuomo, while he was in Cuba, anchoring the network’s special coverage.

Chris Cuomo defends his choice to wear Castro’s shirt while anchoring in Cuba

CNN’s New Day anchor Chris Cuomo received criticism from the usual circles (Newsbusters and Rush Limbaugh, for example) a few days ago for his choice to wear a shirt that, as he explained on New Day, was a gift from dictator Fidel Castro to his father, the late governor of New York Mario Cuomo.

As he explained, after prompted to by co-anchors Michaela Pereira and Alisyn Camerota, “I wear this for a reason: this shirt belonged to my father. It was given to him by Fidel Castro as a gift that — you know, it didn’t mean something to him because it came from Fidel Castro necessarily, but because it marked conversations going on decades ago that were the same as those today. The concern was the freedom of the people.”

Then yesterday on Facebook, he decided to pushback against those who were critical of his decision to wear the shirt.

“A guayabera is not a Castro shirt. And I wore it because my father gave it to me as a reminder of his and many others long time struggle to change the oppression of the good Cuban people. Pop got the shirt from Castro 30 yrs ago after a discussion the two men had in NYC about why human rights and personal freedoms must be a starting point of any society. Castro had different ideas obviously. That’s what the shirt means to me. That’s why I wore it,” he wrote.

And then, he added, “Any other suggestion is [bull shit]. Period.”

CNN to talk to KTVU’s Steve Paulson?

According to blogger Rich Lieberman, CNN was expected to sit down with KTVU meteorologist Steve Paulson and convince him to join CNN’s weather team.

The report, which was just emailed my way, was published at the end of February — so a few weeks ago.

And while Lieberman says that Paulson was ostensibly to be headed to Atlanta, what are the odds he could actually be heading to CNN’s Los Angeles bureau, to be a part of HLN’s new daytime show, headed up by Michaela Pereira?

Just a thought…

Erica Hill to make CNN comeback?

Could the former CNN reporter Erica Hill be considering a comeback to CNN?

According to a recent report from FTVLive, NBC News is taking Hill of the Weekend Today show, which she currently serves as the co-anchor of.

And pointing to the fact that New Day‘s Michaela Pereira asked to return to Los Angeles and was subsequently handed a three-hour long HLN news program to debut in the second quarter, FTVLive conjectures that Hill may make a return to CNN — to find a spot on New Day, alongside anchors Chris Cuomo and Alisyn Camerota.

And while the move to CNN is only speculation on FTVLive’s part, it would be a welcome homecoming for Hill, who left CNN and Anderson Cooper 360 in early 2010 to pursue a full-time gig at CBS News.

Michaela Pereira leaving New Day for new HLN show

New Day co-anchor Michaela Pereira is leaving the CNN morning show and the New York bureau altogether at the end of April.

She will be fronting a new three-hour long HLN show, reports the Los Angeles Times. CNN Executive Vice President Ken Jautz told the Times the format will be similar in style and tone to HLN’s current morning show, Morning Express With Robin Meade.

“It’s time for me to go home and be close to my family and my community and my loved ones. I’m excited about going back and getting to do what I love, which is a morning news show.”

Pereira’s new show, that doesn’t currently have a title or launch date, will originally from the network’s Hollywood studios.

Michaela Pereira and Don Lemon return to host Oscars coverage

CNN Tonight anchor Don Lemon and New Day co-anchor Michaela Pereira are back to host CNN’s Oscars red carpet special this Sunday with coverage beginning at 6 p.m. ET live from Hollywood.

After the awards, Lemon and CNN International’s Isha Sesay will anchor And the Winner Is… a 2-hour special in front of a live studio audience at CNN’s Los Angeles bureau, reports TVNewser.

Last year, Lemon attracted some criticism after he joked about a “dick in a box” and Pereira chided him that her mother was watching the broadcast.

What will we do without Chris Cuomo for one month?

What will we do without New Day co-anchor Chris Cuomo for slightly over a month on Twitter?

Well, guess we’ll see…

Cuomo is giving up Twitter for the Lent season. And considering Cuomo’s prolific tweeting history, the Twitter world will be lost without him — for a month, anyway.
