New Day in third place

On the day of the new anchor team debut for New Day, the struggling morning show continued to struggle, only having 99,000 demo viewers, and a total of 308,000.

While Alisyn Camerota was added to New Day and Michaela Pereira was “promoted” from news anchor to co-anchor (something that isn’t really a promotion), Monday was the team’s official “start.”

And that “new” team came in third, losing to the revamped and re-energized Morning Express with Robin Meade. HLN’s morning show had 145,000 demo viewers and a total of 321,000 viewers.

You win some, you lose some, I guess…

Staff not pleased with Zucker

A CNN employee spoke with PageSix, less than pleased with how Jeff Zucker handled the New Day Kate Bolduan/Alisyn Camerota situation.

The source told PageSix’s Stephanie Smith:

“The manner in which Jeff did it is angering female staffers…They took [Bolduan] out while she was on maternity leave and buried it on a day when there’s serious news [Paris crisis].”

CNN Lineup Changes

Kate Bolduan will be leaving New Day, as had widely been anticipated. Instead of returning to DC or possibly taking over SOTU, she will be replacing Michaela Pereira on This Hour, and serving as John Berman’s new co-host.

New Day will now have three full anchors: Chris Cuomo, Alisyn Camerota, and Michaela Pereira. Michaela is no longer the news reader.

Jordan Chariton of The Wrap reports:

[Kate Bolduan] will become co-anchor of @ThisHour with John Berman at 11amET, replacing Michaela Pereira, who has been promoted from news anchor for “New Day” to co-anchor alongside Cuomo and Camerota.

Behind-the-scenes, Javi Morgado, has ascended to Executive Producer of the morning show, replacing Matt Frucci, who was cut from the show during 2014’s widespread layoffs. Morgado joined CNN in 2011 as Senior Broadcast Producer for morning shows. Jim Murphy will remain Senior Executive Producer.

Camerota’s officially starts as co-anchor on January 19th; Bolduan joins @ThisHour on January 26, returning from maternity leave.

What are CNNers thankful for?

The Huffington Post posted a list of what TV personalities are thankful for. Here’s what the CNN anchors said…

CNNI’s Christiane Amanpour:

“This Thanksgiving- I am grateful that I still have the platform to speak truth to power, that I inhabit the fact-based world of journalism, and that I have not lost the passion to seek the truth no matter the risks, and hold power and influence accountable on behalf of our viewers.”

HLN’s Robin Meade:

“In my personal life: I’m so thankful my mother’s health bounced back quickly this year. She gave us a big scare in the spring with a cranial hemorrhage. Thank goodness it was a one-time thing and didn’t affect her speech or her ornery personality! While I won’t be home in Ohio for Thanksgiving, I know she’ll be the one, head-honcho-ing the culinary activities in my family house. And I’m so grateful for that.”

CNN’s Lisa Ling:

“First and foremost, I’m grateful for my family. My daughter Jett has allowed my husband and me the opportunity to know a love of which we never knew we were capable. After multiple miscarriages, this feisty little person is the child we were supposed to have.

And I wake up everyday and pinch myself that I get to tell stories about people that inspire compassion and better understanding of one another.”

HLN’s Dr. Drew Pinsky:

“Gratitude is truly one of the most important emotions to call to mind as often as possible. I guess I feel most thankful that most of the time I do feel grateful: grateful to have regained my health after treatment for Prostate Cancer, grateful for a wonderful wife and three amazing children roaring in to the world, and grateful to have an interesting creative career where I can ply my skills in such a way as to make a difference.”

CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta:

“Every Sunday, since any of my children were born, I have taken a picture of them in the same spot– next to a small stone wall in our backyard. At first they were lying in a small bundle in the grass, but over the years, they have become stronger, taller and more confident. Looking at these pictures from time to time creates unbelievable surges in emotion — from laughing out loud to wiping away tears. This year, I want to give thanks for that. I am grateful for the ability to feel such powerful emotions, and to have people around me who feel that same passion.

I am also grateful for the ability to finally and genuinely enjoy the present — not worry so much about the future — and to let go of the past.”

CNN’s Michaela Pereira:

“After my first full year in NYC I am thankful for good walking shoes, a warm coat, frequent flier miles and a Seamless account. In all seriousness, family is love…and I am so grateful for a big, huge, loving, crazy family.”

CNN’s Chris Cuomo:

“Health, Family, and Opportunity…what more is there? For me – and for most – it comes down to these three essentials.”

CNN’s Alisyn Camerota:

“I’m thankful for my big new CNN family where they supply doughnuts every Friday morning. And eternally grateful for the good health of my kids and husband.”

Camerota’s first CNN sit down interview

On Friday, CNN’s newest anchor, Alisyn Camerota, did her first sit-down (out of studio) interview on behalf of the network with one of Bill Cosby’s alleged victims.

Watch below, via CNN:

Today, she did her second sit down interview with another Bill Cosby victim. Airing on New Day, it has since aired throughout the day on CNN as well as on CNN International.

Watch, via CNN:

Needless to say, Alisyn handled both interviews much better than Don Lemon did with a different Cosby victim.

Report: Natalie Morales in talks to make a CNN jump?

There has been an increase in reports of NBC’s Today Show newsreader Natalie Morales making the jump to CNN.

There has been a fiasco this week, with Today Show general manager Jamie Horowitz being fired by NBC News president Deborah Turness… And supposedly, Natalie Morales was fired. Although she has not actually been fired, a source tells The Wrap’s Jordan Chariton that she has, however, been in talks with others…including CNN.

Insiders told TheWrap Morales has been in talks with other networks, including CNN.

So, she’s still at NBC… She’s just shopping around, supposedly.

My response?

What use is she to CNN? At NBC News, she has a salary of $2 million. Nothing that CNN can’t pay, of course…but why pay?

There are literally no openings in CNN’s schedule. Okay, the morning block of New Day is a total toss-up, and yes, the ratings were lower with fill-in Alisyn Camerota than with anchor Kate Bolduan. That being said, CNN already has one anchor without a show: and it’s either Alisyn Camerota or Kate Bolduan, depending how the chips fall.

Why would CNN hire another anchor?

And while CNN Newsroom‘s Carol Costello has went total partisan hack and doesn’t really anchor a block of news anymore, she’s not going anywhere. People were calling for her to be fired, or at least apologize on-air. And she didn’t. So she’s safe.

So, will she end up being at CNN? I think the answer is a no.
