After news percolated that Vice President Mike Pence wasn’t permitting top health experts from appearing on CNN, the White House reversed course on Thursday evening by allowing CDC director Dr. Robert Redfield to appear on AC360‘s town hall. Additionally, Dr. Anthony Fauci was booked on New Day this morning.
Originally, a spokesman for the vice president told CNN that the administration’s top doctors, such as Drs. Fauci and Birx, would be allowed back on CNN “when you guys cover the briefings” in full. A CNN executive explained that the reason the network cut away was that the length sometimes approached nearly two hours.
Although Dr. Fauci was almost a regular on CNN early on during the coronavirus pandemic, appearing alongside Anderson Cooper and Dr. Sanjay Gupta in primetime, he was blocked from appearing a full 7 days, from Thursday to Thursday — unitl the White House changed its mind last night.
