CNN’s Atika Shubert announces she is leaving

CNN senior international correspondent Atika Shubert, previously based in Berlin, has announced she is leaving CNN. She has been with CNN for 20 years and started with the network as a producer working in Indonesia.

She said, “I’m taking a break from news. CNN has been my home for 20 amazing years. But it’s time for change.”

Shubert went on, “I had no idea what I was in for: Jakarta, Tokyo, Jerusalem, London + Berlin. Riots. Terror Attacks. Earthquakes. A devastating tsunami. A missing plane. An enigmatic hacker turned fugitive who wouldn’t answer my questions. I earned every grey hair on my head in that time.

“It was incredible. And I got to work with the best news crews in the business. I’ll never be able to say thank you enough. But now, I want to step back. I want to reconsider how we tell the stories we need to know.”

I’m sorry to see her go. She was a true professional.

  2. “But now, I want to step back. I want to reconsider how we tell the stories we need to know.” in other words she realises its 24/7 Trump nonsense and all the international news is being closed down so they can talk Trump all day everyday, jump before London and other international news centres are shut down.

  3. Not only do I admire Atika’s extraordinary work ethics and career results,
and not only was I consistently taken aback by her thoroughness and memory; her instant recall,
… but I’ve had a crush on her for years.

Now I have the ultimate respect for Atika Shubert for her honest, yet indirect ‘goodbye observation’ on today’s network news circuses: “But now, I want to step back. I want to reconsider how we tell the stories we need to know.”

    Amen to that.
