CNN commentator and Pro-Trump surrogate Steve Cortes is undergoing vetting to be White House press secretary (again), CBS News reports. Cortes joined “CNN partly at the suggestion of the White House itself and the president himself,” per MMA.
Acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney’s office reportedly reached out Thursday to Cortes after President Donald Trump announced Sarah Huckabee Sanders was leaving the administration at the end of the month.
Cortes served on Trump’s Hispanic Advisory Council during the 2016 presidential campaign and is presently serving as a part of Trump’s 2020 reelection advisory committee. He is set to visit the White House later next week.
Cortes declined to comment to Politico’s Anita Kumar.
