An employee town hall was held amid reports that CNN was slashing 50 jobs on the digital side.
During that town hall, CNN Digital executive vice president and general manager Andrew Morse acknowledged, “We tried to do too much too fast,” according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Morse said that CNN Digital’s financial targets were “overly aggressive” and that “the monetization engine wasn’t aligned with the growth strategy.” But he assured employees that CNN Digital is a growing business and that executives are not “managing decline.”
CNN Worldwide president Jeff Zucker denied that 50 would be laid off, and said it would be fewer. When employees asked Zucker and Morse specifically which teams would be disbanded, both executives declined to elaborate.
