CNN primetime anchor Don Lemon returned to air Tuesday night with a message following the loss of his sister. Lemon last anchored his show on Wednesday of last week, before learning his older sister L’Tanya “Leisa” Lemon Grimes died of an accidental drowning.
He said he was back on the air “because this is exactly where she would have wanted me to be.”
Lemon went on to thank his competitors for reaching out to him, such as NBC’s Megyn Kelly, Fox News’ Sean Hannity and Steve Doocy, and thanking his CNN colleagues, as well as his former executive producer-turned NBC exec, Jonathan Wald.
He also mentioned his boss, CNN Worldwide president Jeff Zucker, saying, “I got the news here at work [of her death],” he said. “You don’t know how much this meant to me, Jeff Zucker: I’ll never forget that you wouldn’t leave my office, you wouldn’t go home until I got in a car, until I got onto a plane.”
