HLN anchor Ashleigh Banfield presented an open letter at the top of her Monday night Crime & Justice broadcast to actor Aziz Ansari’s accuser: “You had a bad date,” as Deadline reported.
But TMZ spoke to Banfield, who admitted, “I actually thought I might lose my job over this one. So I was not, let’s just say, confident getting up on the set as I usually am.”
“I’ve been in a situation before where I’ve experienced enormous professional blowback for taking a stand on something I thought was right,” she noted.
Banfield pointed out that the support has been almost universal, including from CNN.
In her open letter, Banfield called the accuser’s claims “appalling” by lumping a bad date in the #MeToo movement. Her original comments are below.
