Sean Spicer’s appearance on SE Cupp’s HLN show offered a big ratings boost

Former White House press secretary Sean Spicer’s hour-long interview with HLN anchor S.E. Cupp turned out to be very beneficial for Cupp, from a ratings standpoint.

Spicer, who Cupp has previously described as a “friend” of hers, helped attract a larger crowd than usual for S.E. Cupp Unfiltered, notes Axios.

As Axios’ Sara Fischer reported, Cupp’s show gets roughly 70,000 viewers on average in its 5:00 p.m. timeslot, but Thursday night’s show pulled in 109,000 viewers for the network.

HLN re-aired the show Thursday during the 8pm hour for those who missed the first run of the Spicer interview. The repeat show pulled in 142,000 total viewers — 38,000 within the 25-54 key demo — bringing the day’s total to 251,000 total viewers of the show, 70,000 of which were in the demo.

Spicer declined to comment to Axios’ Johnathan Swan when asked about the ratings bump and whether or not he harbored any TV gig aspirations.

  1. With that charming personality it’s hard not to like S.E. Cupp — at least a little.

But if we learned anything from Greta’s cancellation, Megyn’s low ratings and S.E.’s very low ratings is that right of center TV personalities — no matter how charming — are going to struggle on NBC, MSNBC, CNN and HLN.

The only exception from the right is Nicolle Wallace. I don’t watch her show — but I get the impression it’s mostly a Trump bashing show appealing to liberals.
