CNN is mulling adding a paywall of sorts to its online verticals, CNN Politics and CNN Money, in an effort to help monetize CNN Digital, reports the Wall Street Journal.
According to WSJ, CNN is hoping its subscription offering will be available by the second quarter of 2018.
The report states that a proposed premium offering will give subscribers access to special content on topic-specific verticals, such as CNN Money and CNN Politics, built around network personalities. A second option will provide additional, though less specialized, content across all of CNN’s sites.
“We have to find more subscription products,” CNN Worldwide president Jeff Zucker told the WSJ. “We have to experiment with e-commerce. And I think we have to find ways to monetize mobile traffic.”
Pricing, per the report, has yet to be finalized.
CNN Politics ranks as the number one unique viewers for sites or verticals pertaining to politics; CNN Money ranks as sixth.
