On Monday, three CNN journalists resigned after the network was forced to retract a story about involving Anthony Scaramucci. The story was eventually taken down, and replaced by an editor’s note.
Thomas Frank, who authored the story; Eric Lichtblau, the story’s editor; and Lex Haris, the executive editor in charge of the unit, CNN Investigates, all resigned.
“On Friday, CNN retracted a story published by my team. As Executive Editor of that team, I have resigned,” Haris said in a statement. “I’ve been with CNN since 2001, and am sure about one thing: This is a news organization that prizes accuracy and fairness above all else. I am leaving, but will carry those principles wherever I go.”
Also this week, senior medical producer John Bonifield was caught in Project Veritas’ crosshairs saying that the Russia investigation was “bullshit” and CNN was covering the story so much because “it’s ratings.”
CNN stood by Bonifield: “CNN stands by our medical producer John Bonifield. Diversity of personal opinion is what makes CNN strong, we welcome it and embrace it.”
CNN contributor and sometimes town hall host Van Jones was also videoed by Project Veritas and said of the investigation, “The Russia thing is just a big nothingburger. There’s nothing there you can do.”
