Republican Congressman Chris Collins of New York is coming under fire from Democratic officials for his willingness to participate in tonight’s episode of The Messy Truth–the on-going town hall series hosted by Democratic commentator Van Jones — pointing out his unwillingness to participate in town halls with constituents in his own district, calling it “useless,” the Livingston County News reports.
The Democratic officials said, “Mr. Collins has repeatedly insisted he has no intention of holding such a meeting, even calling town halls ‘useless.’ But when invited to appear on a cable television program with a studio audience in New York City that will not represent his constituents, Rep. Collins jumped at the chance. So he may find out what the concerns are of a New York City audience, but he’s still avoiding people in his own district.”
The Messy Truth airs tonight at 9pm ET on CNN.
Collins’ comms director pushed back, and told the Livingston County News, “Congressman Collins saw it as an excellent venue to discuss the very important issues facing all Americans in a substantive manner. Additionally, this will provide everyone in NY-27 the opportunity to hear where Congressman Collins stands on the issues important to Western New York. Hardworking families won’t need to take time off to attend. They can simply turn on their televisions to CNN Thursday at 9pm.”
