CNN Worldwide president Jeff Zucker downplayed ratings expectations after the November election to the Nomura 2016 Media, Telecom & Internet Conference in New York City during a session that was webcast, reports the Hollywood Reporter.
“There’s no doubt that we are not going to have the same ratings next year, that we have this year. We’re not.”
During coverage of the Democratic National Convention, CNN ranked ahead of Fox News’ powerhouses, including Bill O’Reilly and Megyn Kelly.
Zucker added that while ratings will come back to earth for the network, it is still expected to see good ratings and remain profitable in 2017, citing the network’s strategy of “going all in” on big breaking news stories, along with airing its original series.
Earlier this month, Turner CEO John Martin said that it was a “question of when, not if,” CNN passes Fox News.
“This is our most-watched year ever,” Zucker concluded, before adding, “We’re within two share points of Fox News.”
