The cable networks, including CNN, are cashing in on this election cycle. According to a Bloomberg report, CNN is expected to charge anywhere from $40,000 to as much as $100,000 for a typical 30-second advertisement during the upcoming Republican and Democratic conventions, in comparsion with the normal rate of around $5,000 for an advertisement during primetime.
“They will be two of the most interesting conventions in modern political history,” says Sam Feist, CNN’s Washington bureau chief.
CNN will dedicate nearly all its 24-hour-a-day programming in late July to the Republican confab in Cleveland and the Democrats’ gathering in Philadelphia, Bloomberg reports.
Fox News is expected to charge a similar rate.
