CNN hires former Philadelphia mayor Michael Nutter as commentator

Former Philadelphia mayor Michael Nutter has officially joined CNN as a political commentator, as announced by the network’s media correspondent Brian Stelter.

“It came together pretty quickly,” Nutter told “And it’s definitely an honor. My goal is to try to communicate a message that is direct, authentic, and represents a reality of 20-plus years of elected office.”

He explained that CNN reached out to him in January, shortly after he left office; although he declined to go into details about his contract, he added he would be on air “a fair amount.”

In early December 2015, Nutter made headlines for calling GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump “an asshole.”
