On Thursday, CNN producer Ricky Blalock filed a racial discrimination lawsuit against CNN, reports the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
Blalock has worked for CNN since 2010 and claims he and other black employees were passed over for promotions. In the lawsuit, he alleges white employees were given on the job training for higher level positions, opportunities he says he was denied.
His suit claims the network “intentionally and willfully violated Mr. Blalock’s right to be free from race-based discrimination in his employment.”
He began his career at the network as a freelance producer for CNN International; in 2012, he moved to CNN US, where he worked in a full time capacity for Fredricka Whitfield for her weekend show, and working Mondays and Tuesdays for Suzanne Malveaux’s since-canceled show.
The AJC reports Blalock is asking for compensatory damages of at least $500,000.
