Last night at a rally in Georgia–about 85 miles from Atlanta, where CNN is headquartered–GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump floated the idea of boycotting the CNN debate, unless the network agreed to give him $5 million.
Previously, Trump wrote a letter to CNN Worldwide president Jeff Zucker, insisting that he donate the profits from the CNN September GOP debate to veterans groups.
Then last night, he pondered, “How about we do this for CNN: I won’t do the debate unless they pay me five million dollars, all of which money goes to the wounded warriors or goes to vets?”
Trump added, “I would love to do that.”
Then, predicting what CNN’s reaction would be if he didn’t participate in the debate, Trump continued, “So, with CNN, here’s what they’ll say: ‘Trump’s chicken. He’s afraid to debate. He’s afraid to debate.’ Now: If you’re not leading and you’re going nowhere, you have nothing to lose. But wouldn’t it be bad: I’m leading the polls, I don’t do it, I play cute — because you’re playing cute, right? — it gets out I’m chicken, which I’m not. One thing I’m not is chicken.”
