Fredricka Whitfield issues on-air apology on Monday

CNN anchor Fredricka Whitfield went on CNN Newsroom with Brooke Baldwin to issue a fuller apology for calling the Dallas gunman “courageous and brave“; she had previously stated she misspoke, but that didn’t satisfy the Dallas Police Association, who demanded “a more appropriate apology” from Whitfield.

Whitfield said, “I misspoke terribly. I misused those words terribly. And I sincerely apologize for making this statement, and I understand now how offensive it was, and I want to reiterate that in no way do I believe the gunman was courageous or brave. I sincerely apologize.”

  1. CNN is already getting backlash for not only Fredricka Whitfield’s irresponsible comments, but also for the biased remarks many CNN reporters make against law enforcement. This blurb you just posted, and everything else CNN is doing is only making matters worse. First of all, you say ” to issue a fuller apology”. Fredricka never apologized in the first place, so how can this be a fuller apology? Could this passage be any more passive aggressive “she had previously stated she misspoke, but that didn’t satisfy the Dallas Police Association, who demanded “a more appropriate apology” from Whitfield.” The Dallas PA requested an apology, which she didn’t give. When she didn’t provide one, of course they asked again for it. The quotes around “a more appropriate apology” also couldn’t be more demeaning to citizens and Police officers. Again, she never apologized initially, so how can one provide a more appropriate apology when one didn’t issue an apology in the first place.

It is NOT that difficult to realize that when you make a statement like saying it was brave and courageous for someone to intentionally shoot up a police HQ and take innocent lives, whether it was intended or not, to immediately apologize. Is it a coincidence that we finally got a “real” apology (as smug as it was) from Fredricka on the same day that Texas Lt. Governor, Dan Patrick, sent a letter to CNN’s worldwide President demanding her resignation and a formal apology.

I wonder how fast Fredricka would have issued the same apology if it had been CNN’s headquarters that was shot up, and she called the criminal brave and courageous?
