CNN’s Weed 3, the documentary by chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta, and High Profits, both proved “high” in the ratings, leading to a first play victory in the news demo, and additionally a first place win in the 18-34 year old demo (shocking, right?), Deadline reports, based off of fast Nielsen data.
At 9 PM, Sanjay Gupta’s Weed 3 averaged 299,000 news demo viewers, besting combined Fox News Channel (188,000) and MSNBC (98,000), early stats suggest. In the younger viewers, CNN logged 80,000 viewers, beating MSNBC’s 63,000, and FNC’s 28,000.
Compared to the prior four Sundays, CNN was up 32% at 9pm.
At 10 PM, the first episode of CNN’s new eight part docu-series High Profits, about a couple with a plan to franchise marijuana retailing, debuted at No. 1 across cable news last night. That includes an average of 284,000 viewers in the news demo, beating FNC’s 205,000 by 39% and MSNBC’s 115,000 by 147%. Among younger viewers, High Profits (132,000) outperformed the combined delivery of Fox News Channel (9,000) and MSNBC (68,000).
Compared to the prior four Sundays, High Profits jumped 64% in the news demo. Of the 18 CNN Original Series season premieres to-date, High Profits was is the network’s second highest-rated among 18-34 year olds, behind the Season 1 launch of Somebody’s Gotta Do It.
