Bill Weir, the CNN newsman turned host of The Wonder List, went to Vanuatu last year to tape an episode of his show.
This weekend, CNN called on Weir to contribute to their coverage of the cyclone that struck Vanuata — because he had already been there!
He appeared on both CNN Domestic and CNN International, offering his insights.
This is a significant win for Jeff Zucker’s strategy that enabled him to overlap original programming with live news content. Earlier instances of this occurred with John Walsh, when a kidnapper turned herself in after being featured on CNN’s The Hunt; and CNN called on celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain to offer his insights on Iran, based off of an episode of Parts Unknown.
