CNN doesn’t seem to be in any hurry to name the new anchor for the Sunday morning show, State of the Union. The first two weeks following Candy’s departure, Dana Bash hosted; Gloria Borger did the third week; Jim Sciutto did the fourth week, and now, we have learned Michael Smerconish will host the fifth week.
While all of the previous anchors have been reporters (with the exception of Gloria, who is an impartial political analyst), Michael Smerconish is a talk radio show host and a CNN political commentator (and he hosts his eponymous show Saturday morning).
Is there any danger in him hosting?
Not really — but he will be the first host of SOTU that makes his politics known, instead of being the “impartial journalist.”
Something to watch…
