Today, New Day did something similar to what I had suggested in my earlier blog post, where I suggested the cancelation of Early Start, and bringing over its anchors to be on New Day. Now, obviously this wasn’t because I suggested it (and I doubt they even saw my blog post), but at any rate, for the first time in a long time, I found New Day to be actually watchable and enjoyable.
John Berman and Michaela Pereira anchored in studio; a short while after Early Start ended, Christine Romans also joined the table, where she served as New Day’s newsreader. Kate Bolduan was reporting from the field (in Perth, Australia), and she was simply doing wonderful! In my opinion, they found a place for Kate: out in the field, reporting and interviewing guests on location. And, it’s also worth noting Indra Petersons was away today (and will be for this week on a scheduled vacation) and that Jennifer Gray subbed for her; she also did very well.
Assuming this is the formula they keep for a few days (which, I imagine it will be, because Chris probably has a scheduled week of vacation too), maybe CNN will eventually decide this is a good formula for them. As I mentioned in my previous post, mix it up… give it a Morning Express feel. Berman and Cuomo anchoring; Pereira on the headlines; Romans reading the business news and interviewing economic analysts as needed; and Petersons doing the weather. (Though, not as frequent weather bits as on Morning Express).
